Katalana
(Visayan Dance)
This dance was probably brought here by the Spanish settlers from Catalonia, Spain, during the early part of the seventeenth century. This is a very gay and vivid dance which is popular in Iloilo.COSTUME. Girl wears patadyong and kimona, Boy wears white trousers and barong tagalog.
MUSIC is divided into four parts: A, B, C, and D.
COUNT one, two, three to a measure.
FORMATION. Partners stand opposite each other about six feet apart. When facing auience, Girl is at Boy’s right side. One or more pairs may take part in this dance.
Music Introduction.
Three-step turn right in place and bow to partner or audience (4 cts.). Raise R foot in front in preparation for figure I (2 cts.). Girl holds skirt, Boy places hands on waist……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………2 measures
